ASTOR PIAZZOLLA

This extended Musical Moment features Le Grand Tango by Astor Piazzolla, who reinvigorated Argentinian tango by blending it with elements of jazz, classical and electronic music. He wrote this one-movement work in 1982 for the legendary cellist Mstislav Rostropovich. Jaemin Han and Jonathan Ware capture its changing moods – from the emphatic rhythms of the opening minutes though the lyricism of the central section to the wit and energy of the conclusion.
