Our Musical Moments Series returns with its 101st track, a performance of Lee Hoiby’s Autumn (Songs for Leontyne) by soprano Emily Pogorelc who is accompanied by Chris Reynolds on piano. Set to the beautifully intrinsic poem of Rilke and in time for autumn season, the young American soprano gives an expressive and lyric rendition of this song. Originally, Hoiby specifically composed the work for the great soprano Leontyne Price whom he collaborated with on numerous occasions. Autumn is an unusually profound song that juxtaposes the notion of falling leaves and ultimate human silence on Earth and captures its essence in mesmerizing vocal lines and intense soundscapes.
