CLAUDE DEBUSSY

Our Musical Moments series continues this week with this atmospheric and calm work entitled Cloches by French composer Debussy, performed on piano by Arsenii Moon. The piece is the first of Debussy’s famous collection Images II. It combines several sounds: the sound of church bells and the quiet rustling of falling leaves and those already lying on the ground. In addition to the distant ringing, the piece features exotic sounds that are reminiscent of the pentatonic scale of gamelan music Debussy had heard years before. Through his sensitive playing, Arsenii Moon is able to create a mysterious atmosphere and mood.
