Ravel originally wrote the three Chansons madécasses (Madagascan Songs) for voice, flute, cello and piano. Axelle Fanyo and Emmanuel Jacquet here perform an inventive new arrangement by Valentin Kervadec of the first song, “Nahandove”, for voice and marimba. Balanced by the warm, resonant sonorities of the marimba, Axelle brings a purity of tone and crystal-clear diction to this tale of a sensual, moonlit encounter between the narrator and the beautiful Nahandove.
