EDUARD OJA

This week’s single in Musical Moments series features Estonian violinist Hans Christian Aavik, who has teamed up with his pianist wife Karolina to play a chamber piece by their little-known compatriot Eduard Oja (1905–50). Entitled ‘Aelita’s Suite’ it was inspired by the sci-fi novel Aelita by Alexei Tolstoy. Its finale depicts the whirling dances of the people of Atlantis in music of dazzling colour, energy and invention, brought wonderfully to life in this performance.
