Franz Schubert was a romantic icon who composed over 600 songs during his tragically short life, each one an emotional microcosmos. Schubert’s unique ability to mold melody to poetry and paint rich, dramatic landscapes using the simplest of musical means makes his work both instantly captivating and consistently fascinating. The Wiegenlied (Lullaby) is a perfect example of this sublime art. Andrè Schuen’s warm baritone caresses the poetry like a father caressing his sleeping child’s cheek, with Daniel Heide at the piano casting light and shadows across this intimate scene.
