Morgen (Tomorrow) is one of Richard Strauss’ most beautiful and beloved songs. The short poem by John Henry Mackay was set by Strauss to a ravishing melody over undulating accompaniment as a wedding present for his wife, Pauline. The subtle diction and vocal warmth of young, Tyrolean baritone, Andrè Schuen, supported by the orchestral colors Daniel Heide draws from the keyboard lend tender expression to this most Romantic of late 19th Century love songs.
Musical moments can be moments of memories or reflection, a retrospect of the past or an anticipation of the future, that are enriched by hearing or thinking of a special piece of music in that same moment.
