Tenor Laurence Kilsby and pianist Ella O’Neill release a new album on our partner label CAvi music, in which they present songs exploring the idea that the darkest, most lustful and impulsive versions of ourselves stem from our innocence having been corrupted. The programme’s sub-themes of inexperience, naivety, and corruption are pieced together through multiple perspectives in a journey from childhood through to adulthood, exploring romantic, sexual, and emotional awakenings. Many of the album’s composers and writers wrote at a time when their own personal lives and feelings were suppressed as a result of societal pressures to conform. Their outlet was their art.
