Julius Asal performs Scriabin’s Quasi Niente from Piano Sonata No. 1 in a version recorded on an upright piano. It is the third single by the young German pianist from his upcoming debut album on DG, which is scheduled for release on 3 May.
The album features works by Scarlatti and Scriabin. Combining two composers who are rarely mentioned in one breath, the album creates a dreamlike meditation in which the boundaries between pieces, eras and states of mind fade away. “Even seemingly different materials from different times and with different densities can merge,” comments Asal on his innovatively curated programme, that is linked by a pair of improvisatory Transitions.
