“Ch’ella mi creda” is a gem of a tenor aria from Puccini’s opera La fanciulla del West (The Girl of the Golden West). It’s sung by the character Dick Johnson, aka the bandit Ramerrez, as he prepares to face execution – he begs those around him not to tell his beloved Minnie that he is dead, but that he’s free and far away. Jonathan Tetelman performs this aria with full orchestra on his latest album, The Great Puccini, but here sings an intimate new arrangement for tenor and guitar by classical guitarist Frédéric Zigante, who joins the singer in this recording.
