The Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia under Musical Director Daniel Harding present a further pre-release track of their upcoming album, on which they are joined by an array of performers to present Puccini’s operatic thriller Tosca.
This staging not only commemorates the Puccini anniversary but also marks the official debut of Harding as the orchestra’s new Music Director, conducting his first ever performances of the tragic opera. With an all-star cast on board, led by star tenor Jonathan Tetelman and soprano Eleonora Buratto as ill-fated lovers, their presentation of Tosca made a fitting tribute to Puccini in the year of the centenary of his death. They were joined by French baritone Ludovic Tézier who sings Baron Scarpia, the brutal chief of police who proves their undoing. These experienced performers conjured the drama of an opera as a concert performance that highlights the slightest vocal and orchestral nuance – every detail of Puccini’s fantastic writing can be heard.
Listen to a further pre-release track, the dramatic and moving piece Vissi d’arte taken from the second act of the opera. A video recording of the performance also comes out today. The full album will be released digitally as well as on CD on 28 March.
