We mark the centenary year since the passing of Engelbert Humperdinck with the release of Erinnerung: Homage to Humperdinck. Humperdinck, who was born in 1854 in Siegburg, near Bonn, produced a broad oeuvre that places him in the great heritage of German music history and is best known for his fairy-tale opera Hänsel und Gretel – one of the most frequently performed operas around the world.
The new anthology includes world premiere of Erinnerung, an early piano piece rediscovered in a poetry book owned by the composer’s sister. The album features spellbinding performances by artists including Hinrich Alpers, Brigitte Fassbaender, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Jonas Kaufmann, Christina Landshamer, Lucia Popp, Schumann Quartett, Sir Georg Solti & Eberhard Wächter.
The album is released today, 23 April 2021 and is available as both a 2CD set and digitally for download and streaming.
