“Conducting is about sharing music” – so says Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, winner of Gramophone’s Recording of the Year 2020, here conducting the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen in a concert recorded at the Konzerthaus Dortmund, where she is currently artist-in-residence. The music Mirga wants to share on this occasion includes two works by Mieczysław Weinberg, whose long-neglected catalogue she has championed in recent years. The programme opens with his Aria, op.9, which is followed by the Schumann Piano Concerto. Soloist Kirill Gerstein stays on stage for the second Weinberg work – his Seventh Symphony, for harpsichord and strings. Orchestra and conductor then bring the concert to an end with Beethoven’s “Leonore” Overture No.3
