The staging of Richard Wagner’s Ring des Nibelungen by Patrice Chéreau for the 100th anniversary of the Bayreuth Festival in 1976 is known as the legendary Centenary Ring is now presented in remastered HD quality on Blu-ray video. The musical director was the conductor and composer Pierre Boulez. The final performances were greeted with 90 minutes of applause and standing ovations, and 101 curtain calls (a Bayreuth record) and the Ring production by Chéreau and Boulez is still regarded as a benchmark in the history of the work’s interpretation.
