Joana Mallwitz
In the wake of her primary season as the first female principal conductor to ever lead a Berlin orchestra, Joana Mallwitz releases her debut DG album The Kurt Weill Album with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin. For this, the exceptional conductor puts her focus on the music of Kurt Weill.
In a meaningful dialogue with her orchestra and weaving fine individual performances into a seamless musical whole, Mallwitz cleverly combines Kurt Weill’s two symphonies, the “Berliner Symphonie” and the “Fantaisie symphonique”. The conductor refers to them as “fantastic, exciting music firmly rooted in Berlin”. The album, which is released both digitally and on CD, further features an interpretation of Weill’s and Bertolt Brecht’s mordantly satirical Seven Deadly Sins, recorded with singer-actress Katharine Mehrling and the Konzerthausorchester Berlin.
