Deutsche Grammophon’s Avant Garde series (1968–1971) was an ambitious venture to present contemporary composers of the time. 24 albums were released and 50 years later the series is still an unsurpassed collection of iconic 20th century music, remembered for its impressive scope and meticulous production as well as its particularly colourful sleeves.
The extensive liner notes have been reproduced in the booklet and each album is presented with its original cover – the first CD release for over half of the albums.
