We announce the re-issue of an album on which the undisputed master and rediscoverer of the glass harmonica, Bruno Hoffmann, performs different pieces by composers such as Mozart, Beethoven and Reichardt.
With its gentle, rounded sounds, the glass harmonica epitomised the tender mind, the dark side of the soul and the longing for eternity. Hoffmann favoured playing on individual glass bells, whose sound he preferred to Benjamin Franklin’s mechanized glass harmonica, and gave the name ‘glass harp’ to the instrument he perfected.
In the 1950‘s, Hoffmann recorded significant works from the repertoire for the newly founded DG label Archiv Produktion, of which only a few have been released on CD or digitally to date. This album now makes all the recordings available digitally for the first time.
Listen to a pre-release track of Reichardt’s joyful and mediative Grazioso for Glass Harmonica. The full album will be released digitally on 4 April and is now available for pre-order.
