BEFORE BARBED WIRE

Before Barbed Wire is an homage to the late American contemporary pianist George Winston. In the words of Balmorhea: "We got to know this beautiful piece of music when we were children listening to the Winston version from his seminal album ‘Plains.’ The track is fragile, nostalgic and quintessentially American with its pastoral and wide-open gestures. There was always an openness to his music, something at once from the landscape and the heart. We hope this version picks up where he left off. The cover image, originally made for geological survey purposes, comes from the same series of photographs used for Balmorhea’s 2022 EP Solanales.
