We remember Herbert von Karajan who died on this day in 1989, If there is one musician who represents orchestral conducting better than anyone else during the 20th century, it has been Karajan. On the one hand, his charisma, his passionate approach to music, his unique ability to extract the most brilliant sonorities from the orchestra and, on the other hand, both his cult of technique and recording studios and his profound knowledge of the recording market made him the most popular and acclaimed conductor of the whole century.

Perhaps no other conductor has done more for Sibelius or has championed him more consistently on record than Herbert von Karajan.  Celebrating Karajan’s great affinity to Sibelius, we re-release his complete recordings of the composer’s works on DG, across 5 CDs + 1 Blu-ray audio.  The analogue recordings are newly remastered and presented on Blu-ray Audio disc in DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0, 5.1 Surround Sound and Dolby Atmos. This box is released today, 16 July 2021. To complement the box set, we also present three newly digitized albums available to download & stream for the first time including in Dolby Atmos.
