Rolando Villazón, internationally renowned singer, director and writer – and Artistic Director of Salzburg’s annual Mozart Week – is the guest of honour at a gala concert at the city’s Haus für Mozart. Filmed live on 21 February, the eve of Villazón’s 50th birthday, the concert features music by Mozart, naturally enough, alongside a wide-ranging programme of other excerpts from opera, operetta and zarzuela, and a selection of favourite songs from Europe and Latin America. Villazón is joined on stage by an array of star guests, including Charles Castronovo, Plácido Domingo, Magdalena Kožená, Regula Mühlemann, Fatma Said and Michael Volle, while Lithuanian conductor Giedrė Šlekytė directs the players of the Camerata Salzburg. The evening is hosted by Austrian journalist and TV presenter Barbara Rett.

The event is a charity gala concert for the benefit of the Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg which will receive 50% of the net proceeds from this transmission.
