Flourish, the Debut DG EP from Meredi

“I always had this crazy amount of music in my head, just composing itself,” says Meredi. Having signed an exclusive agreement with the German-Armenian composer, pianist and producer earlier this month, Deutsche Grammophon is now delighted to present the artist’s debut Yellow Label EP. Flourish is released digitally today, 28 June 2024, while a performance video for the track “Ararat” will be premiered on the DG YouTube channel at 6pm (CEST) on 2 July.

Meredi works in different genres and for a variety of forces, from solo piano miniatures to large-scale orchestral works for theatre, ballet or the concert hall, as well as music for film and television. For Flourish, she has written a collection of new tracks for various combinations of piano, cello, violin, and Moog Grandmother and Lyra−8 synths. Bearing such evocative titles as “The Wanderer”, “Behind Her Sun” and “Double Sky” (featuring vocals in Armenian sung by Meredi herself), all six works are connected by a subtle and itinerant theme which seems to be forever in search of a home, while also becoming a place to which the music always eventually returns.

Born in Berlin in 1992, Meredi studied at both the Hanns Eisler Conservatory and the Berlin University of the Arts, later specialising in composition for film and media at the Munich Conservatory. Away from her formal studies, she was influenced by the huge diversity of cultures and art present in Berlin. In 2020 she released her solo piano debut album Stardust, whose accolades include having been named one of BBC Music Magazine’s Top 10 post-classical albums that year. This was followed in 2021 by ambient album Trance and, in 2022, by Some Other Place. It was also in 2022 that Meredi composed “White Flowers Take Their Bath” for Mari Samuelsen’s DG album LYS – a track which has since garnered over 9 million global streams.
