Continuing our digital video series of live concerts from the archives, we release today the Berlin Philharmonic’s Europakonzert 2013 from Prague’s famous Spanish Hall. Simon Rattle leads the Berlin Philharmonic in a program featuring Czech mezzo Magdalena Kožená singing Dvořák’s Biblical Songs, which are at the heart of the Czech classical heritage, and Beethoven’s Pastoral symphony. The Europe Concert is a yearly fixture for the Berlin Philharmonic, started in 1991, whereby the orchestra performs on May 1 in a different European city each year. The concerts serve on the one hand to commemorate the anniversary of the orchestra’s founding on May 1, 1882, and on the other to celebrate Europe’s common heritage.
