Following the release of the Weinberg Symphonies 2 & 21 with conductor Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla, we present an album of chamber music by Mieczysław Weinberg under the direction of Gidon Kremer. The works on the album include “Three Pieces for Violin and Piano” (1935), the Piano Trio op. 24 (1945) and the Sonata No. 6 for Violin and Piano, Op. 136 (1982). The three works spam the composer’s career – the “Three Pieces for Violin and Piano” were written when Weinberg was only 15 years old and had not yet received any compositional training – while the Sonata dates from 1982, although it was in fact discovered among his unpublished papers in 2007. The album is released in collaboration with the Adam Mickiewicz Institute as part of the Polka Music programme and POLSKA 100, the international cultural programme celebrating the centenary of Poland regaining independence. Supported by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland as part of the multi-annual programme NIEPODLEGŁA 2017–2022. The album is out now.
