The studio recordings of mandolinist Avi Avital have always been marked by a sense of fiery charisma and panache. Yet hearing the Israeli virtuoso in the context of a live performance delivers an added dimension of spontaneity. His 2015 solo recital from the Verbier Festival - including works by Bloch, Sauli, Kuwahara, Bach, and Avi Avital himself - yields a level of energy that is altogether unique, especially in the niche idiom of solo mandolin.
The album is released today on our joint label Verbier Festival Gold. See also the video below of his performance of the Courante from Bach's celebrated Partita No. 2 which Avital himself arranged for mandolin.
