MAHLER Symphony No. 5 / Nelsons | Deutsche Grammophon

On his new album, Andris Nelsons is joined by the Wiener Philharmoniker to present Mahler’s 5th Symphony, recorded in 2022. The performance captures the orchestra’s luminous sound and Nelsons’ deeply human approach to Mahler’s music – by turns intimate, ecstatic, and transcendent.   

Nelsons finds Mahler’s art a source of endless fascination, “speaking to us at a universal level whilst creating an intimate and personal connection with each listener”, resulting in “an almost mystical connection between you, the composer and the music – reaching across time and place, directly touching your soul”. 

This stand-alone release is available digitally and as a 2-LP set. It launches the long-awaited complete Mahler symphonic cycle, which comes out digitally and as a 14CD boxset on 23 October and is now exclusively available for pre-order in the DG store.
